Dinner at Marahua on Tuesday 6th September 2011. Roast Mutton Bird on a bed of Roast Kumara and New Zealand wild watercress. Topped with a sauce made from watercress, pinenuts and a dash of oil and whizzed up in the blender. Delicious. Served with Marahua Blue Blueberry wine. Thank you Sarah and Peter - locals who showed me how to prepare it.
The 2011 crop was a record crop for the orchard both in quantity picked and quality of the berries. The current 2012 crop is also huge .. so far almost 2500kg picked. Cold weather is holding the crop nicely .. but it would be good if the current rain didn't last too long.
Today, 20th February 2012 was the final day for this special event. It has been fun and Honey Cat is exhausted. The youngest participant is Katryn from Wellington, the granddaughter of a local dear friend. A bit of photo shop has produced this lovely image. She isn't an official entrant but the picture is wonderful. Thank you Natasha and Colin.
Lots of frozen blueberries are already available on site to carry us through the rest of 2012.
The fire in the living room of the main lodge is lit everyday through the winter. What with that to heat the water, and the heat pump to take the extra chill out of the air, it is toasty warm in here.
Tuesday 26th July 2011 we woke to a beautiful snow covered wonderland. Enough to decorate the surroundings and not too much to make it unpleasant .. AND .. the sun shone all day.

Blueberry pie recipe - thanks to Neil Cameron who baked this so tasty and attractive looking blueberry pie during a recent visit here. Picture taken by 39 South Productions. Recipe also provided .. thank you Neil
